Take the 2.6 Challenge for Romsey Mill

From Sunday 26 April, the day when the Virgin Money London Marathon would have taken place, anybody can now join the rest of the UK for The 2.6 Challenge.

Whatever your age or ability, you can take part.

The #TwoPointSixChallenge is your chance to be a "Home Hero" for Romsey Mill and raise funds from your very own living room, bedroom, balcony or garden!

This could be something as simple as pledging to run or ride 2.6 miles as your daily exercise, holding the plank for 2.6 minutes, to gardening for 26 minutes.

There are no rules – apart from the Government guidelines on how to exercise safely during this time.

The main thing is to get active, have fun, pledge whatever you can to help or fundraise for Romsey Mill.

What is the 2.6 Challenge?

The 2.6 Challenge will launch on Sunday 26 April - the day that should have been the London Marathon, where thousands of runners would have run 26.2 miles for charity. We’re asking you to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to Romsey Mill.

The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing.

The 2.6 Challenge can be anything that works for you. You can run or walk 2.6 miles, 2.6km or for 26 minutes. You could do the same in your home or garden, go up and down the stairs 26 times, juggle for 2.6 minutes, do a 26 minute exercise class or get 26 people on a video call and do a 26 minute workout – anything you like! Just have fun and raise money for Romsey Mill.

Why now?

Like so many charities across the UK, Romsey Mill has been impacted by the cancellation of many fundraising events and the closure of our buildings due to Covid-19.

At Romsey Mill, the loss of vital funds from the hire of our community rooms, and the closure of our charity shop and Cara Coffee shop alone, amounts to over £25,000 a month. This income makes a world of difference to Romsey Mill’s ability to get alongside and help some of the most at risk and vulnerable young people, children and families in our community.

In response, the country is coming together to raise vital funds to help charities – including Romsey Mill.
