"An opportunity.... to chase dreams"

Ben's story (Hampton, Peterborough)

Romsey Mill first started working with Ben (not his real name) two years ago, when we began to deliver youth development work in Hampton, Peterborough.

Our youth workers engaged with Ben at school, and he also started attending our open access music studio sessions. Due to issues with his behaviour at school and one significant incident he was permanently excluded from school and began attending an different provision outside of the usual school hours.

This prevented him being able to attend our usual music studio sessions so Dave, one of our youth workers in Hampton, started one to one sessions in the day where Ben could come along to talk and record songs.

We were able to support Ben in this transition period by discussing future plans and his worries as well as enabling him to make music which is something he loves.

Through this time Ben grew and improved his behaviour in the school environment, so much so that he was able to take his GCSEs.

Ben is now studying business at College and also spent time doing work experience at the coffee shop at CSK church in Hampton.

Ben told us: “Romsey Mill has given me an opportunity to focus on good things and chase dreams.”

"HOPE. Your gift, our presence."

Romsey Mill Christmas Appeal 2019

Nearly one in five young people disagree with the statement that life is ‘really worth living’.* For them hope is fragile.

Throughout the year, the team at Romsey Mill is present and alongside many disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, in places across Cambridge city, South Cambridgeshire and in Hampton, Peterborough.

Across all of Romsey Mill’s work, our presence with young people and families helps them to:

• Overcome isolation and challenge

• Develop relationships and skills

• Grow more resilient communities and

• Build hope for their future.

How you can help

Making a donation this Christmas would help us to maintain our presence with vulnerable young people and families in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and help them have real hope for their future.

Any donation that you can make will help to make a positive impact the lives of all those with whom we work. Thank you!
