Both of Romsey Mill’s Pre-school settings (Romsey Mill Centre and Ross Street) have been inspected by OFSTED during the current academic year, and have been graded as “Good”.

Sylvia Briscoe, Romsey Mill’s Pre-school Coordinator says:

"Romsey Mill Pre-school provides a safe, happy, inclusive, and caring environment for the children to explore and develop in. Our emphasis is on allowing the children to learn through play.

For many children, attending Pre-school is the first time that they will be separated from their primary carer and for some, especially since Covid, it is the first time that they will mix with other children.

Our children are offered a wide variety of play resources and materials, based on their interests and reflecting their diversity, to ignite curiosity and stimulate learning and development. Each child is valued and is allowed to develop and learn at their own pace.

Like all Ofsted-registered pre-schools, Romsey Mill Pre-school follows the early years foundation stage (EYFS), which sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.

The prime areas of learning are:

  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal, social, and emotional development

and these apply to all children.

Once the children reach the age of three years, four more areas are covered:

  • literacy
  • mathematics
  • understanding the world
  • expressive arts and design

At Romsey Mill Pre-school, our main aim is for the children to be happy and to want to be in the setting.

We reassure the child that their main carer will always come back. We offer a safe environment where children can make mess, take safe risks, share excitement, and learn new skills whilst playing and having fun!

Children often benefit from having the routine that attending pre-school provides and it is good preparation for when they go to reception class at school. Through play, the children learn skills such as: how to socialise, take turns, and share as well as develop their communication skills and physical ability.

If you would like to volunteer:

Our pre-school would love to have adult volunteers to come in and help.

We run from Monday to Friday, 9am to 12pm, term-time only.

NOTE:  All volunteers would require a DBS Check before they are able to work with any children.
