  1. Our work

Training

We love to empower and train passionate people to provide good quality youth work. In 2019, we launched our Level 2 Award training in Youth Work Practice, in response to requests from some of Romsey Mill's young leaders. In our first year, we successfully trained 40 students, and have since run several Level 2 and Level 3 courses.

We currently offer training for Level 2 Awards and Level 3 Certificates in Youth Work Practice (dates for next courses to be confirmed):

Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice

This accredited course (NOCN, 11 credits) is suitable for those who are currently involved in a voluntary or professional youth work setting and want to develop their youth work practice. This includes understanding the theoretical underpinnings of youth work. Topics include youth work principles, building effective relationships with young people, adolescence and safeguarding.

Our course is delivered by experienced development managers, who specialise in engaging with at-risk and disadvantaged youth through multiple platforms. These include alternative education provision, individual, group and community work.

Requirements: 16 years +, in a voluntary or professional youth work setting.

12 weekly sessions

Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice

This accredited course (28 credits) is suitable for those who are significantly involved in the delivery of youth work in a voluntary or professional setting and intend to pursue a career in this, or similar, field(s). Topics include:

Reflective Practice in a Youth Work Setting

Group Work within a Youth Work Setting

Working with Behaviour that Challenges in Youth Work Settings

Work-based Practice in Youth Work

Supporting Young People with Disabilities and Additional Learning Needs within a Youth Work Setting

All applicants must have a youth work placement, be able to deliver 60 hours of youth work across a 12 month period and have access to an experienced supervisor who can assess their practice. (NB. Although helpful it is not essential to have already completed the level 2 qualification.)

For more information about these training opportunities and awards, contact [email protected]

In addition to the Level 2 and 3 training, we also provide a number of other training opportunities at Romsey Mill. Through Ridley Hall, we offer youth work placements for students seeking to gain relevant youth delivery experience within a supportive and developed team.

We also offer individual specialist training sessions and workshops, and presentations and talks at various youth events.
