Youth Music is a national charity that supports grassroots organisations and young people, to help them make, learn and see a future for themselves in music.

Romsey Mill has been supported by Youth Music for more than 6 years, helping to develop our music programme in Cambridge and also in Hampton, Peterborough.

In October, the annual Youth Music Awards took place, celebrating emerging talent and leaders who might face barriers into the industries because of who they are, where they’re from or what they’re going through.

Youth Music supports hundreds of projects nationwide, and Romsey Mill has been the most nominated project at their Awards over the last 3 years, with 11 shortlistings and one win.

This year, Romsey Mill was shortlisted for four awards across the 12 categories, including the Social Action Award for projects making an outstanding commitment to local community and social justice.

The three other shortlisted nominees were all from Hampton, where Dave Read (Lead Youth Development Worker) has engaged young people in that community to access music making opportunities.

The nominees were Tinzo (Best Video); Penny Blue (Live Performer) and Striker Beats and YJ (Best Original Track - Group).

Although none of Romsey Mill’s nominees won awards on the night, they each received positive comments from the Awards judges, who were all from the music industry.
