Romsey Mill’s Pre-school provides a perfect stepping stone for families with children under 5, in supporting the development of their children before they start school.

Romsey Mill has two Pre-school settings, at Romsey Mill Centre and at Ross Street Community Centre. Both settings provide a traditional pre-school offering, with 15 hours of provision from Monday to Friday between 9am to 12pm, term time only.

All three-year-olds are eligible for 15 hours of funding per week. Some two-year-olds are eligible for 15 hours of free provision.
Romsey Mill’s Pre-school has recently been graded as “Good” by OFSTED in both our settings and we implement the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We are a friendly, inclusive setting where everyone is welcomed. Our pre-school is a small community and we are particularly keen to build relationships locally.  We have a flexible approach where we work with the families to help the children settle into the setting as we understand that this may be the first time the child will be separating from their primary carers.

At Romsey Mill Pre-school our emphasis is learning through play and having fun! If a child is happy and settled at a preschool, they will be learning through play. They will be given opportunities to:

  • Build relationships with adults and peers
  • Learn to play alongside, and then progress to play with, other children
  • Learn patience, resilience and the art of sharing and turn-taking
  • Develop their communication and language skills
  • Develop their physical skills

In addition to this, the children will have opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in all aspects of the curriculum. They will receive a great foundation in preparation for when they start their formal education in Reception at primary school.

The children that attend Romsey Mill Pre-school have the opportunities to spend quality time every afternoon with their primary carers and families.
