Volunteers perform a vital role in the life of Romsey Mill’s pre-school. 

Romsey Mill prides itself in building strong relationships with the children and their families that enrol in our pre-school. However, it is not only the families that we seek to support but also the wider community. Working in partnership is a two-way process, we are always grateful to accept volunteers to join us in pre-school.

Past volunteers have said how rewarding they have found being part of the pre-school team, meeting new people and just generally having fun surrounded by our ‘little people!’ 

Having a volunteer enables more adult interaction with the children and provides extra pairs of helping hands to carry out tasks, such as preparing snacks and activities. Many of the children enjoy sharing books and listening to stories with an adult. Our volunteers over the years have included:

•          Students on placement for studies and qualifications
•          Retirees wanting to spend some of their free time helping children
•          Parents and carers wanting to ‘give back’ in recognition of how Romsey Mill supported their own children
•          Adults wanting to gain experience interacting with children as part of the child-adoption process
•          Those wanting to meet new people, make friends and be part of a team
•           People who want to build self-confidence to support a return to work after a career break
•          Others looking for a boost in their self-confidence after experiencing some challenges in their own lives
•          Those interested in pursuing a career in childcare and education, wanting to have a ‘taster’ to understand the requirements of the roles further.

In line Romsey Mill’s Safer Recruitment policy, ALL volunteers require a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check before being accepted. Volunteers are never left unsupervised with the children and are never involved in any intimate care of the children.

Romsey Mill Pre-school operates Monday to Friday, 9am to 12pm, term-time only.
